The city of Ferrol (75.000 hab) was always connected to the sea . It was selected as a a military department by the Navy for its special setting of the Ría, with a narrow entry and a wide and defensible port. There, it is built the Military Arsenal and the Shipyards, the most advanced of that time, as well as the Quartier of A Madalena (s. XVIII), a genuine example of the Enlightenment time city. A visit to the Castle of S. Felipe (s. XVIII) , at the navy museums of the Arsenal (Museo Naval and Exponav) as well as the Sociedade Galega de Historia Natural Museum (SGHN) and the Exhibition of Meninas in the Canido quarter are essentials.
